Joy Jot #11 First Try!
My family LOVES LEGO Batman. We often quote lines on a daily basis. It seems that there is a Batman quote for just about everything.
Lego Batman appears in The LEGO Movie and his own feature film The LEGO Batman Movie.
There is just something adorably about lego men — their legs that bend at the hip - their hands in a permiscoop. Since the mom of four boys thing, I have spent a lot of time and money on LEGOS. I have clipped a LEGO man to my keychain for years. Haha!
Today I would like to share with you, two life principles learned from Lego Batman.
If you have seen The LEGO movie, then you might remember a scene when LEGO Batman and his friend pull up to at a clearance bar that is down. In order to get out, a button must be pushed to lift the bar. So, LEGO Batman ensues to try to open the bar by throwing plastic bats at the button that will release the security bar. He throws, A LOT of little bats at the button and when he finally hits it and the bar is lifted, he says to his friend in the car with confidence “FIRST TRY!”
This makes me laugh every time I watch it. There’s something funny about the little plastic bats — him finally hitting the button —and then the confidence that he shows in his abilities.
“FIRST TRY!”
Here is the video if you want to watch the clip now.
What do we learn from Lego Batman?
It is OK and probably necessary to try to do something over and over again before we get the result we want.
Batman‘s view of himself is not diminished by his repeated efforts. He shows himself compassion.
These are powerful life principles.
How can you apply “first try” in your life?
writing a talk or school paper?
setting boundaries?
starting a new habit?
learning a new hobby or sport?
You’ve got this! And next time you give something a try for the 3rd, 4th, or 5th time, hey, it’s only your “first try” AND you’re still AWESOME!
Have a great day!
