Joy Jot #15 You are made to overcome obstacles.
You are made to OVERCOME OBSTACLES.
How do I know you are made to overcome obstacles?
Because of this…
I have spent a lot of time riding up our beginning lift, Littlecat, at Snowbasin Ski Resort. From above, I watch the little tiny kids learn to ski. They learn how to start, turn and stop. Once they master these skills, they automatically want to tackle the small terrain park so they can practice their skills going around obstacles—over bumps and jumps. Then they hit the harder stuff—rails and boxes.
So, here’s the thing, we are made to OVERCOME obstacles.
Humans want things to be kinda hard. Easy is too easy. Video game creators know how to exploit this desire by making each level a little harder so that when one level is complete, there is a great sense of success and desire to tackle the next level up.
Think back to when you overcame an obstacle that seemed too hard or too big—and you did it anyway. How awesome is that?
I have a friend, Susie *, who has been going through a very hard thing for a very long time. She may not think that she is overcoming very well, but she is doing it. She is not giving up and her tenacity is an inspiration to me.
Last winter, in her quest of overcome the massive obstacle in her life, Susie decided to make a goal to ski 25 days at Snowbasin to help her want to get out of bed. Now, this may not sound that hard if she had planned to do it starting in December, but she decided to tackle this feat in early March—and she’s a “bluebird” skier—meaning she likes groomed runs on sunny days. But, this preference had to go out the window.
I was lucky enough to be a ski buddy for some of her days. We became warrior skiers that showed up in all kinds of weather!
We forged through wind, fog, snow, and forgotten gear. Once I showed up with no snowsuit and had to borrow a coat from lost and found. Once she showed up with no ski boots and we had to take turns skiing runs!
Susie literally overcame obstacles to OVERCOME OBSTACLES in her own life.
There is power in conquering—and you are powerful!
May you have the best year yet in 2025!
You are made for and meant to overcome obstacles!!!
With love,
Amy
